Meet Jiaming Shi, an incoming graduate student in the behavioral neuroscience research area.
Name: Jiaming Shi (she/her)
Hometown: Qingdao, China
Education: Michigan State University, Psychology, 2022
Tell us about your background/experience.
I graduated from Michigan State University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I joined Dr. Lily Yan's lab as a research assistant, focused on studying circadian rhythm disruptions in a diurnal animal model of a neurodevelopmental disorder - Smith-Magenis Syndrome.
Why grad school?
Graduate school to me is the critical gateway to future professional possibilities that act more than just an advanced educational environment, it fosters growth and development in multiple dimensions.
What do you hope to research while you're here?
As a graduate student, I hope to further my current research investigating the circadian behaviors of grass rats, understanding brain mechanisms, and developing potential innovative therapeutic strategies for Smith-Magenis Syndrome.
What do you love about Behavioral Neuroscience?
Behavioral neuroscience unravels the intricate connections between the brain, behavior, and neurological processes. Studying the relationship between physiological processes that occur in the brain and the behavior of an organism is very cool!
In your free time, what do you like to do?
I am a traveler, I like to explore cultures around the world whenever I have a chance. I also love to cook, read, and go on trail walks!
